Space is a relational field in which an entity, event or idea can be located, oriented, bounded, separated, connected or moved.
Physical space concerns observable relations among bodies and places. Semantic space concerns structured relations through which ideas are understood.

Spatial relations do not explain every meaning. They form one important and testable layer for constructing, comparing and translating meaning. Context determines which spatial features are active.

Sky activates ABOVE and OPEN SPACE in ordinary use. Literary and cultural contexts may additionally activate COVER, VAULT, BOUNDARY, FREEDOM, FATE or HEAVEN.
The Collanguage hypothesis sky ↔ 盖 tests whether phonetic similarity and a shared cover metaphor can support a cross-language semantic mapping.
